After a delicious breakfast at Bongo Room in Andersonville, we were ready for a hot cup of coffee.  We decided on La Colombe since it was right down the street.

It makes sense that "La Colombe" means "The Dove" in French.  I have always wondered what the premise was behind their logo. I learned today that their name was inspired by The Colombe d’Or - a French hotel and restaurant.  The original owners of the hotel were art enthusiasts and eventually, the hotel became a famous lodging destination for artists. If you're curious, you can read about it here.  We love when our weekly coffee shop visits collide with anything creative, and we keep getting lucky in that department!

But, It's not about what's buried deep in meaning that makes La Colombe great.  It's actually what's on the surface.  The coffee, the pastries, the atmosphere, the baristas all play a part in their obvious success.  It was a never ending flow of customers throughout the time that we spent there but it did not interfere with our visit whatsoever.  It was quiet, but not still.  Alive, but not distracting.  I was entranced by the way in which the light came in from the beautiful windows.  It was relaxing and added an hour of ease to our somewhat chaotic lives.  These moments are the most important to me....exploring new neighborhoods, drinking good coffee, taking photos of beautiful spaces - all while spending time with the most important person in my life. I was thinking Yo el Rey was going to be a hard shop to follow, but La Colombe was right on point and we look forward to visiting their other locations!
